Helen Ward is Clinical Reader in Social Epidemiology in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London, and an Honorary Consultant in Public Health at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She qualified from Sheffield University and held various training and research posts in Genitourinary Medicine and Public Health in London. After completing an MSc in epidemiology, she was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer in Public Health at St Mary’s Medical School, later Imperial College London. Her main research interest is in the epidemiology and control of sexually transmitted infections and HIV with a focus on social and behavioural determinants. Helen also plays a major role in medical education at Imperial, including the expansions of global health in the curriculum. She is currently is currently co-Editor of the BASSH journal, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and has been appointed public health expert member of the Department of Health Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV.
