Edward H Wagner is a general internist and epidemiologist and director of the MacColl Institute for Healthcare Innovation at the Center for Health Studies (CHS) Group Health Cooperative in Seattle, United States. His research and quality improvement work focus on improving the care of elderly people and others with chronic illness. Since 1998, he has directed “Improving Chronic Illness Care,” a national programme of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
He and his colleagues at MacColl Institute developed the chronic care model, which has now been used in quality improvement programmes worldwide. He also is principal investigator of the Cancer Research Network, a National Cancer Institute funded cancer research consortium of 12 health maintenance organisation based research programmes. He has written two books and has more than 250 publications. He serves on the editorial boards of Health Services Research, BMJ, and the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology.
