Tom Fahey is professor of general practice at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland medical school in Dublin. Previously he was professor of primary care medicine at the University of Dundee, having trained in general practice and public health in Oxford and Bristol.

He has an interest in applied clinical research in community settings with the overall aim that his research influences and improves patient care. He is married to Deidre, an academic obstetrician, and they have three children. In his spare time he walks his dog, coaches mini-rugby, and does a bit of running in order to stave off middle age.
